CONTENT STANDARDS - There has been a long standing effort to develop objectives to teach a curriculum that expects something to be desired from students.  This concept has evolved into a "Content Standard" so that the curriculum dictates something absolutely required rather than "desired."

We recommend you review your State's Standards for educational subjects.  However, if you click your computer's mouse's left button on any of the underlined below, you will see an orchestrated effort of the core of what has to be learned by a student in that area.

INTERESTING HISTORY - OPHTHALMOLOGY - Besides inventing a cast-iron stove shaped like a fireplace by employing metal baffles to increase its heating efficiency, Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790), has been credited with wearing the first bifocals as a solution to his eyesight.  He had trouble reading and was also nearsighted, unable to see distant objects clearly.    He had been wearing two different pairs of glasses for the two different reasons but soon became tired of them.  He took the top half of his distance glasses and cemented the bottom half of his reading glasses together which solved the problem.

U.S. PRESIDENTS -

•      Jimmy Carter was the first U. S. President to be born in a hospital.
•      The first U. S. President to wear a beard in office was Abraham Lincoln, 1861.
•      The first President to appear on TV was Franklin D. Roosevelt.
•      President Franklin D. Roosevelt appointed the first woman to a cabinet position, Frances Perkins, Secretary of Labor.
