TO: All Superintendents of Schools & Educators
"The National Education Telecommunications Network (NETN) and *U S WEST announce the activation of NETN on the Internet with the address: http://www.netn.net . The joint effort of NETN and *U S WEST is to provide Educators with a "Start Connection" to: (1) Other Educators, (2) Business/Industry, (3) Government at All Levels, (4) Health Organizations/Activities, (5) Community, (6) Parents, and (7) Students.
The Web Site uses focus as a priority in education and should help with teaching endeavors while at the same time, help satisfy National Educational objectives. If your review of the Site is positive, which we believe it will be, please consider advising Administrators, Teaching Staff, and Students of the new Internet address. Please note that on the "Administration/Boards/Committee" page, (by the gold star), there is an address to click on which deals with free computer equipment available. Also note that NETN is a FREE Web Site to users. *U S WEST is providing server space for NETN. There is no income for the NETN site nor is there any income received from any of its links.
All 50 Governors and Commissioners of Education throughout the United States have been notified of the reactivation of NETN.
The Web Site is growing daily. Please feel free to return any comments to us and/or advise of inclusions or changes you would like to see. Districts, schools, teachers, or students may "link" to the NETN site, without charges or restrictions; the link address is http://www.netn.net"

that every channel of communication be opened so that every Teacher in

This web has been designed as a tool for Educators from whatever Sector, (Public or Private Schools, Universities & Colleges, Students, Parents, Community, all Sectors of Government, Business & Industry, Health Organizations & Activities), as a starting point for accessing the Information Highway to obtain guidance, direction, resources, techniques, and support for accomplishment of educational goals.

2. When you first enter a page on NETN, look at everything on that page. Practice scrolling and looking.
3. Go to your area of specialty on the first page and click the mouse on the particular SUBJECT & EDUCATIONAL AREA tablet. This will take you to that page. More subjects appear within each major subject area. In the future, these will become separated pages. Example - Click Science - Then you will see Biology listed among others. Ask yourself a question --- What am I looking for? What's inside a frog? You can go to Search Engine on this page and after you have clicked on the particular search engine, input the following: frog internal organs visual. After that, the Search Engine will permit you to click directly on each search result to take you to that place. After time, you will learn which Search Engine is best for your area -- but don't forget about the others because new things are coming on line every day. Or, on the Science page click on anything underlined.
4. Now that I have the frog on the computer screen, what do I want the students to do with this visual? Maybe for homework, ask them to write down each biological object they see, and write down 5 enzymes secreted, matched, to 5 internal biological organs. Provide the Internet Address to students. When test time comes, you will be amazed. Remember, the teacher can print out what you see on the Internet. This alone opens a whole new avenue for lectures, homework, research, or testing, to name a few.
5. Remember to ask yourself -- What am I looking for? How can I use what I find to teach, stimulate, motivate, excite, and incorporate into a meaningful learning experience. If you can't find what your looking for, ask other Educators through E-MAIL directly to their school or NETN. Within the DIRECT LINK pages of NETN (a link on the Home Page), you can find other School Districts.
6. Find out what retirees have taught your subject area. Call them; invite them in for a visit; ask questions; evaluate; be a good listener; and apply what you learn to your situation. You will be rather surprised at the results. The way the retirees did things "once-upon-a-time" may be different now, but learning only one or two things to help you incorporate into your up-to-date situation could prove rather rewarding and exciting.
